Client: Head & Shoulders
Project: Video Ad Editing
Role: Video Editor
For this project, I edited a stylish and humorous commercial for Head & Shoulders’ "Deep Clean" line, featuring Ekaterina Varnava. The main goal was to craft a video that balanced product focus, emotional storytelling, and dynamic visuals while keeping it within a tight 1-minute format.
Editing Challenges & Creative Approach
🔹 Condensing a Large Amount of Footage – The challenge was to fit all key moments into a fast-paced, engaging 1-minute edit, ensuring the humor and storytelling remained intact.
🔹 Seamless Transition Between Shots – A crucial moment required a nearly invisible transition to maintain the fluidity of the narrative.
🔹 Dynamic Editing Style – I used jump cuts and parallel editing in the first half of the video to create the sensation of a long, chaotic morning routine, emphasizing Varnava’s emotions and energy. This approach not only kept the pacing engaging but also seamlessly highlighted the product’s role in the routine.
Structure & Style
First Half: Fast-paced, energetic cuts, heavy use of jump cuts and parallel editing to portray the protagonist's struggle to wake up and get ready.
Second Half: More relaxed pacing, longer shots – shifting the focus directly to the shampoo, reinforcing its benefits.
Additional Enhancements
🔹 Sound Design – To add depth and immersion, I designed and incorporated detailed audio effects, enhancing the physicality of actions and making the visuals more tangible.
🔹 Color Grading – Inspired by The Morning Show (Jennifer Aniston’s wake-up scene), I applied rich, deep, and vibrant grading, matching the polished aesthetic of high-end commercials.
Final Result & Impact
The final ad successfully combined style, humor, and a strong product presence, delivering a visually striking and engaging narrative.
✅ Nearly 300K views & 115 comments on Instagram, demonstrating strong audience engagement.
✅ The dynamic structure and bold transitions kept viewers hooked while ensuring brand messaging remained clear.
A great example of how precise editing, clever pacing, and strong visuals can elevate a commercial beyond standard beauty ads.
